Residential proxy with city targeting

How the -city- parameter is written, which names it expects for European cities, and what happens when a city has no IP online.

Quick answer

How does city targeting work on a residential proxy?

City targeting limits the exit IP to addresses that geolocate to one city. With EuroCity Proxies, you add -city-<name> after the country in your username, as in USERNAME-country-it-city-milan. It is included on every plan, from $0.95 for 1 GB as of October 2026. City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online.

How do I write the city name?

Write the English name in lower case, without accents, and replace spaces with _. Hyphens are not allowed inside the value, because the username uses hyphens as separators.

  • München → munich, Köln → cologne, Wien → vienna
  • Kraków → krakow, Łódź → lodz, Wrocław → wroclaw
  • Den Haag → the_hague, Cluj-Napoca → cluj_napoca, Novi Sad → novi_sad
  • Chișinău → chisinau, Reykjavík → reykjavik, Málaga → malaga

Every city page prints its exact value. The client area also lists the cities of each country, through GET /v1/catalog/countries/{cc}/cities in the API.

What does "geolocates to a city" mean?

IP addresses carry no street address. Commercial geolocation databases estimate a city for each block of addresses from network data, ISP feeds and user corrections. A city proxy pool groups IPs whose database city is the one you asked for.

Two databases can disagree. A line in a suburb such as Saint-Denis or Leverkusen may show as Paris or Cologne in one database and as the suburb in another. The geolocation accuracy guide explains why, and each city page lists the nearby towns you may see.

The residential proxy product page sums up sessions, protocols and authentication; proxy geo-targeting in Europe lists every parameter, and the glossary defines the terms.

What happens when no IP is online in a city?

City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online. No IP count is published. Residential devices go on and off line, so the number of IPs in a city changes during the day.

If the city has no matching IP at that moment, the connection fails or falls back to a wider match. Before a long task:

  1. Open one request through the city username and read the exit with an IP lookup.
  2. If it is not the city you need, wait and retry, or widen to the country.
  3. For multi-step work, use a sticky session so the city stays fixed for up to 30 minutes (the IP can change earlier, for example if the residential device goes offline).

Which European cities are documented?

103 cities in 35 countries, from capitals such as Paris, Berlin and Warsaw to regional hubs such as Eindhoven, Gothenburg and Cluj-Napoca. Browse them A–Z or by country.

The United Kingdom, Turkey, Cyprus, Russia and Belarus are not covered, and no city in occupied parts of Ukraine is listed.

How do other providers price city targeting?

City targeting terms read on each provider's own page on 18 October 2026.

City targeting: FAQ

Can I use the local spelling, such as muenchen or koeln?

Use the English form printed on each city page (munich, cologne). The catalogue in the client area and the API is the reference: if a name is not there, the gateway does not know it.

Does city targeting reduce speed?

We publish no speed figures. A smaller pool can mean fewer choices of device, so a city request may take longer to find a match than a country request. Test your target with the 1 GB plan.

Can I target a district such as Kreuzberg or Montmartre?

No. IP geolocation is not precise enough for districts, and there is no district parameter. For district-level checks, enter the local postcode on the site you are testing.

Is the city targeting the same on HTTP and SOCKS5?

Yes. The username, with its city, works on port 7777 (HTTP and HTTPS) and on port 7778 (SOCKS5).
