Quick answer

What are city-level residential proxies?

City-level residential proxies are home-broadband IPs that you can request in one named city rather than anywhere in a country. At EuroCity Proxies, the city is one username parameter, included on every plan from $0.95 for 1 GB (October 2026). 103 European cities have a data page. City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online.

How is a city proxy different from a country proxy?

A country proxy can exit anywhere in the country. In Germany that might be Leipzig when you needed Munich. A city proxy narrows the pool to addresses that geolocate to one city.

That matters when a site changes its answer by city: delivery fees, shop stock, local search results, regional ads or a city-specific landing page. For a national check, a country IP is enough and gives a larger pool.

The parameter is optional. Leave out -city- and the gateway picks an IP anywhere in the country you set.

The same product powers every city page and country hub; see all geo-targeting options and prices.

How do I choose a city in the username?

Add the country code and the city after your username, in lower case: USERNAME-country-es-city-valencia. Use English city names without accents, with _ for spaces: the_hague, cluj_napoca, novi_sad. Each city page shows its exact value.

You can add -asn-<number> to stay on one network, and -session-<id>-ttl-<minutes> to keep one IP. The city targeting guide explains the order of the parameters and what happens when a city has no IP online.

Rotating or sticky: which session should I use?

Use rotating sessions for many independent page loads, and sticky sessions for multi-step checks such as a basket or a login to your own test account.

  • Rotating: Each new connection gets an IP from the pool, usually a different one; to get a new IP on every request, send one request per connection (turn off keep-alive).
  • Sticky: add a session ID and a TTL; the gateway keeps the same city IP for up to 30 minutes (the IP can change earlier, for example if the residential device goes offline).

A sticky session keeps the city you asked for. Start a new session ID to move to another IP in the same city. Details are in the sessions guide.

Where do the residential IPs come from?

We resell residential and mobile IPs from established upstream partner networks. Our upstream provider confirms that device owners opt in and can opt out, and that its supply does not come from seized or disrupted networks such as NetNut or IPIDEA.

The exit IP belongs to a home broadband line, so an IP lookup shows a consumer network such as an incumbent telecom or a cable operator, not a hosting company. The sourcing page explains what we know and what we ask of our provider.

What can and cannot be done with these IPs?

Use them for checks of public pages and your own services: local search results, prices and delivery terms, your own ads and landing pages, and app or site geo-testing.

Blocked at the gateway: Banking, government and payment-portal sites, plus SMTP (email-sending) ports 25, 465 and 587. The acceptable use policy lists the rest. Abuse reports are reviewed by a person, and confirmed abuse leads to suspension.

Residential proxies: FAQ

How many European cities can I target?

103 cities in 35 countries have a page with their exact parameter and local data. We only list cities we have documented; ask support about a city that is not listed. City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online. No IP count is published.

Do residential proxies work with SOCKS5?

Yes. Connect to port 7778 for SOCKS5 and port 7777 for HTTP and HTTPS. The username format, including the city, is the same on both ports. Browsers cannot send a SOCKS5 password, so use port 7777 in a browser.

Can I keep the same IP for an hour?

Not with a guarantee. Sticky sessions last for up to 30 minutes (the IP can change earlier, for example if the residential device goes offline). For a longer task, plan for a new session every 30 minutes and expect the city to stay the same, not the exact IP.

Can I target a network as well as a city?

Yes. ASN targeting costs nothing extra. Combine it with a city, for example -country-nl-city-utrecht-asn-<number>. Fewer IPs match the two filters at once, so availability drops. The ASN guide lists how to find a network's number.

How is traffic counted?

Usage counts all data sent and received through the proxy (upload and download, headers included). 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Connection attempts that fail before reaching the target are not counted. The FAQ and the glossary cover the other billing terms.

Do you sell static residential or ISP proxies?

No. Every residential IP here comes from a rotating pool. Sticky sessions hold one IP for up to 30 minutes; there is no fixed IP for days or weeks.
