City proxy guides for buyers

Five guides for city-level work in Europe, from the first request to the rules on data, plus five use cases that apply them.

Quick answer

Where do I start with city-targeted proxies in Europe?

Start with the EuroCity Proxies quickstart: one curl line gives you a home IP in Paris, and the same pattern works for any listed city. As of October 2026, five guides cover the code, checking the exit city, sticky sessions, geolocation accuracy and the GDPR. City targeting is on every plan, from $0.95 for 1 GB.

Which use cases apply the guides?

In which order should I read the guides?

Read them in the order of your first day. The quickstart gets a request through the gateway. The exit-city guide checks that the IP sits where you asked. Sticky sessions keep that IP for a multi-step check.

Read why an IP shows a nearby town the first time a lookup surprises you. Read the GDPR checklist before any project that stores data from other sites.

What do all the guides assume?

They assume one gateway, gw.eurocityproxies.com, with port 7777 for HTTP and HTTPS and port 7778 for SOCKS5. Targeting goes in the username: USERNAME-country-fr-city-paris, with a lower-case country code that is always required.

Country and city targeting on every plan; in the United States also state and ZIP code; ASN targeting at no extra cost. City availability varies. Sticky sessions last up to 30 minutes (the IP can change earlier). City availability varies; the checkout shows what is online. The full list of cities is on the cities index, and each city page gives its exact parameter.

How were the code samples and sources checked?

Every code sample was syntax-checked on 18 October 2026: Python with python -I -m py_compile and Node.js with node --check. The samples only contact https://ipinfo.io/json, https://api.ipify.org or a placeholder for your own site.

Each fact from outside EuroCity Proxies, such as a database's accuracy figure or a regulator's guidance, links to its source with the date we read it. None of the guides is legal advice.

What do the guides not cover?

They do not cover automated collection from search engines, marketplaces or social networks. Google's terms forbid automated access that ignores robots.txt, and google.com/robots.txt disallows /search. For search data at volume, use Search Console or a SERP data provider.

They also skip uses that the Acceptable Use Policy forbids. Blocked: Banking, government and payment-portal sites, plus SMTP (email-sending) ports 25, 465 and 587.

Guides: questions

Do I need to code to use city proxies?

No. A browser with the HTTP port and your username is enough for manual checks. The code samples are for repeated checks and for teams that already use Python or Node.js.

Which city should I test first?

The city your real task needs. The guides use Paris, Munich, Lyon, Kraków and The Hague as examples; the same syntax works for any city on the cities index.

Are the code samples tied to one programming language?

No. The quickstart covers curl, Python and Node.js. Any client that supports an HTTP proxy with a username and password, or SOCKS5, works with the same gateway.

How much traffic will the guides use?

Very little. An IP lookup moves a few kilobytes. Usage counts all data sent and received through the proxy (upload and download, headers included). 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Connection attempts that fail before reaching the target are not counted. 1 GB costs $0.95. Prepaid residential and rotating-mobile traffic never expires: unused GB stay on your account until you use them.

Where is the API documentation?

In the docs and the API reference. The API lists the city ids for each country, used in the username.

How do I pay for traffic?

Pick a plan and top up its price in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC ($25 minimum); the plan is bought once the top-up is credited. No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents to sign up, top up or buy.
